Media-training “Path to Copenhagen”

The problem of climate change is one of the most acute issues of the international agenda. However, Russia is still discussing the possibilities of real threats of global warming to the country and necessity for taking actions. One of the reasons – low coverage of climate change issues in local media and lack of understanding of the subject among Russian journalists.

The goal of the media-training “Path to Copenhagen” is to improve media coverage of the limate change issues and attract public attention towards the problem of climate change and urgent need for taking mitigation measures inter alia via development of renewable energy sources and energy efficiency technologies. The training was supported by the Danish Embassy in Moscow.

The project aims at raising interests and improving professional skills of Russian journalists for writing qualitative articles about climate change and sustainable energy and attract attention towards international negotiations on post-Kyoto agreement.

Anotehr task is to facilitate the dialogue among journalists and experts representing Russian and European business, academia and governments.

The training was organized on 24-25th of April 2009 in Moscow and was conducted by professional journalist, the Chief Editor of Science of “The Independant”, Steve Connor.

The key speakers and experts of the training included Russian scientists, representatives of the Russian delegation for the international climate change negotiations. Two study-tours to Denmark were organized for participants after the training.
