The objective of the project was to inform the Russian public about the climate change issues and the Kyoto Protocol in order to ensure its successful implementation in the Russian Federation.
To attain this goal the following events were organized:
- Seven regional seminars in 7 federal districts of Russia conducted in the following cities: Yekaterinburg, Novosibirsk, Nizhniy Novgorod, Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, Rostov, St. Petersburg and Moscow. The total number of participants exceeded 1,200 persons, including representatives of federal and regional ministries and agencies responsible for environmental protection and implementation of the Kyoto Protocol. The information presented at the seminar included most recent research data relating to climate change, information about the progress ofnegotiations carried out in connection with the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the Kyoto Protocol, development of the global carbon market and the role of Russia in those processes;
- Four special brochures on different subjects relating to climate change and the Kyoto Protocol have been prepared and published;
- A tour was organized for representatives of the Russian federal executive authorities in the UK to study the British experience;
- Over 30 publications prepared for central and regional mass media, including presentations on central TV channels;
- An Internet news portal was launched dedicated to the climate change issues and the Kyoto Protocol (http://www.climatechange.ru).
