GRANT PROGRAM
OF THE RUSSIAN REGIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL CENTRE

Greetings, my dear friends!

"Аnd this will be gone", sages say and they are right. But it is a poor consolation when you are to fulfill such an unpleasant mission of informing 210 addressees that their application didn't receive financing in our Grant Program. Having stood at the wheel of a social institution for 14 years I far too well remember the feelings overwhelming me during the reading of those letters.

What would I like to say now being on the opposite side of the competitive process?
That I have skillfully performed my job and organized the process so that it should be clear, mechanisms - legitimate and the results - objective? Yes.
That we had remarkable experts, reasonable and responsible grant committee? Yes.That plenty of really good applications were left overboard because of the small grant fund? Yes, yes of course.

I have tried to enlighten it all in the information about the course of the Grant Program. I'm eager to answer the requests received and to give the expert comments on your project if they were. I should warn in advance that it will take time, about 3 or 4 months, but I will be sure to answer you.

I also want to say: "Let us be friends! Let us go on living!". I'm very grateful to everyone who has answered my mini-application form: they are already thinking about the future.

I suggest starting with the discussion on the following: do Russian organizations need environmental NCO Forum? What is the Forum? - the explanation follows. The suggestion was made at the independent panel's meeting on January, 27. One of the experts said that Siberia had many applications on forests, all of them proposing free-running activity of non-connected organizations. That is why it would be quite good to create a Forum of RREC grant applicants at least for coordination of such activity and experience interchange. During further discussion Forum of RREC grant applicants "grew" into environmental NCO Forum. Carrying out of the event has many points for and against, many opinions concerning its aims and form. Should we probably discuss it on the RREC Internet-forum?

In the near future I'm going to put on our site expert suggestions upon the improvement and development of the Grant Program, and later on - refined mini-application form figures (for now 42 answers have come). Your advice and replies, your participation in the debate are very important for us and create the field for cooperation.

With best regards and hope of collaboration, Lia Sandanova
